JioPhone pre-booked by millions, online and offline registration paused due to heavy demand

JioPhone pre-registration started on August 24 at 5:30PM on both online and offline channels. There were some teething problems in the initial 1 hour and the website, app crashed due to the heavy demand. However, even though the site crashed initially, the consumers could still manage to book JioPhone by paying a refundable amount of Rs 500. Jio has confirmed that they have received millions of booking for the 4G feature phone. Some media reports claim that JioPhone has received approx 3-4 million registrations for "India ka smartphone" aka JioPhone. Although the number is yet to be confirmed by Jio.
The company at its 40th annual general meeting said that they have a target of making available 5 million JioPhone in a single week. But, not surprisingly, JioPhone pre-booking has exceeded the target. This probably the company also expected. Due to the heavy demand, Reliance Jio on Saturday paused the pre-booking on both online and offline stores. Although Jio didn't officially said that they have paused the pre-booking due to heavy demand but the message that the company posted on its website which reads - "Millions have pre-booked the JioPhone. We will inform you when pre-booking resumes" indicates the same.
